Dr. Ali Afshar, a board-certified urologist, has been providing exceptional urological care in the San Fernando Valley since 2017. As a vital member of the San Fernando Valley Urological Associates Medical Group, he operates out of the group’s office in Beverly Hills, California. In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Afshar serves as an attending urologist at Cedars Sinai Medical Center, where he is actively involved in teaching and mentoring the next generation of urologists through the current urology residency program.
Dr. Afshar earned his Medical Degree from the University of Tennessee College of Medicine in 2011. He completed an internship in general surgery at Cedars Sinai Medical Center from 2011 to 2012, followed by a residency in urology at the same institution from 2012 to 2016. To further enhance his expertise, Dr. Afshar pursued a fellowship in advanced robotics, laparoscopy, urologic oncology, and endourology at the University of Southern California from 2016 to 2017.
His passion for urology was ignited while conducting oncology research at the Vanderbilt University Department of Urologic Surgery. Dr. Afshar has trained under some of the world’s leading surgeons, which has equipped him with specialized skills in laparoscopic and robotic-assisted surgical techniques. His expertise encompasses a range of complex procedures, including radical prostatectomy, radical nephrectomy, partial nephrectomy, nephroureterectomy, cystectomy, pyeloplasty, and advanced management of complex renal stones through retrograde and percutaneous nephrolithotomy techniques.
Dr. Afshar holds certification from the American Board of Urology and is recognized as a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is also an active member of several professional organizations, including the American Urological Association, the Western Section of the American Urological Association, and the Los Angeles Urological Society.
